This August 2008 the UP Library and Information Science Students' Association (UP LISSA) will celebrate its 46 years of Excellence Existence. There'll be an exhibit of UP LISSA History from 1962 until today, Seminar, Bonding Activities, and the LISSA Night.

Anywho. Today's the first day of enrollment in UP for graduating and freshies aka freshmen. And I  am one of the RAs, Registration Assistants (together with Dan, Jen, and Chad--proxy for Hazel). Ang hirap pala. Considering na konti pa ung mga nag-enrol today. Haish.

 From the "Pila System" wherein you have to line up in order to enlist a subject. Looks easy right? But no! It usually took me days to enrol. Ang hahaba ng pila. Ang init. And if you're not lucky enough, the subject that you've been eyeing for days to enlist is already close the time you're allowed to enlist. Then there's Manual TP/Pre-rog/Teacher's Prerogative wherein you have to wait until the start of the classes to "talk" with the instructor of the subject and ask him/her if he/she can allow you to enlist. If you're lucky, he/she will sign your TP immediately. If your not that lucky, the instructor will ask you to sing or dance or act infront of his/her class before he/she sign your TP. And if you're one of the unluckiests, the instructor will not accept you in his/her class. In short, its the teachers' call to accept you or not. You'll also have to go from one college to another just to enlist. And pipila ka ulet for the subject. Haish.

 Now, the current system is the CRS or the Computer Registration System wherein you have to enlist the subjects that you want to take and wait for the result about a week later. Some are lucky of having their subjects enlisted and there are some who only gets 3units or one subject. If you're one of the unlucky ones, you have to enlist your subjects again hoping  that the CRS team will enlist your subjects. The process continues until you get all the subjects you wanted,  a maximum of 21 units or 7 subjects, or until the last day of enlistment. Then there's online prerog, wherein you approah the instructor of your subject and beg him/her to enlist you, no more waiting til the first day of classses. 

What "system" do I prefer the most? I'll say the CRS for its not that tiring compared to the "Pila System" pero nakakamiss ang "Pila System". Two years rin akong pumila at nagsipag for my subjects habang sa CRS diskarte lang para makuha mo mga subjects. And with me graduating nextsem (hopefully!) thankful ako for both kasi naranasan ko pa ang orig na "Pila System" na sa UP lang nangyayari and medyo malungkot dahil unti unti na ang pagbabago na nangyayari sa UP na aking mahal. Hindi makikilala ang UP kung wala ang mga pila pila, aristocart, ikot/toki (?), atbp na unti unting binabago. Hindi pansin sa ngayon pero pagkalipas ng ilang taon, magiging ibang iba na ang UP. 

Sana mas ikakagaganda ng UP ang mga pagbabago!

     Housed at the 3rd floor of Gonzales Hall, UP Diliman,School of Library and Information Studies. It was established in 1962 as the first and oldest Library Science organization in the Philippines. But it was only last year when the org was revitalized with 65 members and officers determined to bring the UP LISSA back. A year full of activities like seminars, talks, volunteer work, bonding experience for the members and alumni, etc. Just like in the past years of its existence, UP LISSA believes in INTEGRITY, SERVICE, EXCELLENCE and TRUE LIBRARIANSHIP.

      And in this coming Academic Year, be sure to watch UP LISSA rock SLIS for we are back and definitely better than ever!

      SEAMEO INNOTECH is one of three SEAMEO regional centers hosted by the Government of the Philippines (GOP).

        SEAMEO INNOTECH was established in January 1970 following the SEAMEO Council's approval of its five-year plan and interim plan of operations. Its headquarters was first set up at the SEAMEO Secretariat headquarters in Thailand. It was then moved to Singapore and later on to Vietnam until it was moved back to Thailand in 1975.

        On July 1, 1976 a memorandum of agreement was signed between the GOP and SEAMEO for the temporary hosting of SEAMEO INNOTECH in the Philippines. On July 1, 1981, the GOP accepted the formal request of the SEAMEO Council for the Philippines to permanently host SEAMEO INNOTECH.
